"The Neruda Case" is a great book is a mystery that stars the famous poet (and one of my very favorite poets personally), Pablo Neruda. I love his poetry so much (my husband and I actually had one of his poems read at our wedding as one of the readings) so I was very excited to get a fictional glimpse of what the man was actually like.
Had the impression this was a very bad translation. very difficult to read.
Prose so gorgeous I had to read it twice. This is one talented translator.
I started reading this book aloud to my partner. The way the author set the scene with social and political detail reminded me of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Read the first two chapters. Beautiful language, but not so appealing to me that I have the urge to continue.
I did not read this in Spanish but I could not find the recent English translation on Goodreads. The Neruda Case is set against the backdrop of the waning days and fall of the Chilean government of President Allende.
Muchos envidiamos a Cayetano Brule.
I went in hoping for literary noir, but this book is definitely more "fiction" than mystery. It captures the political collapse of Chile and brings to life a complex, acutely human, Pablo Neruda.
