Awesome book that shows the power of kindness and tenacity. Martin shames me with his hunger for education and how he rose above his childhood in one of Zimbabwe's worst slums to getting an MBA from Duke, with the kindness of his US pen pal, Caitlyn.
Well where do I start as this book was recommended by a pen pal and I am a over 30 years of pen palling. Never did experience a pen pal with these needs but know the connection you form as a family not just stamps, ink and paper.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story of two very unlikely friends, one in America and one in Africa. While a tad sentimental in parts, there is a real lesson here in watching out for your fellow humans, and doing what you can to make life better.
Read this along with my daughter, who was assigned it as a summer reading project for middle school. An excellent and engaging read!
The story is beautiful, it had me in tears in times thinking of the poverty he lived in and how he never lost hope everyone should read this.
This is the true story of how a simple letter and just one person can change someone's entire world. Caitlin and Martin sign up to participate in their schools' international pen pal programs.
An engaging story told through the friendship of two young students on opposite ends of the world. It shares an inspiring message about kindness and is written in simple and accessible language for middle grade or high school students.
